Project 51 Women’s Racing Academy
It’s not just bike racing – its personal development
To promote and support the development of aspiring Racing Cyclists by providing opportunities via a sustainable athlete driven infrastructure.
It is our intention to establish a full development Academy for junior and U23 riders to lead them into UCI (world governing body) registered and licensed Pro-cycling teams. This pathway will change the standards for development in cycling in both the UK and worldwide.
The Academy will set the bar for competing at an international level, and will offer a vehicle for the development and retention of the future talent of the sport. The Project 51 Academy is about the total nurture and development of the South East’s most promising and ambitious road racers. We will not just cherry pick the best riders, but put in place a complete year round development programme for riders ensuring they go on to be not only the best bike racers, but also the best professional athletes they can be.
COMPOSITION & SET UP
The team will initially work to a 4 year plan (2018-2022), building the riders into elite true quality athletes through the junior and U23 development programmes.
The Juniors will be based in the UK and follow a structured programme to manage the demands of the sport and their academic education. They will race as a team, both in the UK and Continental Europe.
The U23’s will have their base as a mix between Belgium and the UK and operate as both a development academy and a full blown international race team. They will Compete in the top British national races and abroad learning their race craft in some of the world’s top races. It is envisaged that this part of the Academy will be in full operation from 2019 onwards.
The quality of the team structure will attract and develop the best riders from the South East and offer opportunities that don’t currently exist for potential world champions.
If you think you’ve got what it takes and are interested in being in being considered for the Academy, please email us and let us know why you want to be involved.
